An ambigram is a word or phrase designed to retain meaning or reveal a second reading when viewed from another orientation — through rotation, reflection or other spatial transformation.

At its core, an ambigram exploits the visual symmetry of letterforms. Unlike ordinary text that becomes unreadable when flipped, an ambigram is intentionally constructed so multiple readings coexist in one design.
History
Ambigrams gained popular recognition through the work of designers like John Langdon and Douglas Hofstadter, who explored symmetry in language and visual form. Today they appear in logos, book covers, tattoos and personal art.
Types of Ambigrams
- Rotational: Readable after 180° rotation.
- Mirror: Symmetrical across a vertical or horizontal axis.
